Crappy Anime Showdown

Listen. I understand that Gnosia is a game all on its own. It probably has a fanbase and maybe even a following online. However, to me it is just Among Us 2: Anime Bamboozaloo. This anime is really just one long cutscene from Gnosia, as none of the characters are interesting, and they keep bringing up in game topics, such as roles, as if it were a normal topic. Magical princess on the other hand is an Isekai in name only. This show totally forgets it is supposed to be an older woman who woke up is a child's body...

You ever see those memes online where everyone just comments the joke is porn? Well Hands Off is the physical incarnation of those memes. The anime just wants to be porn but is not brave enough or is really catering to horny teenagers I guess. Meanwhile Tojima is a passion project by someone who clearly loves Kamen Rider. The problem is I don't know any of the source material so most of it just goes over my head and I am left with a subpar storyline.

These anime both disappoint us is opposite end of the spectrum ways. It hits even harder considering last weeks episode. We get to choose from literal bestiality and an anime so boring I honestly have removed it from memory. I wish both anime could be sent to the shadow realm, but alas, one must move on. Join us in our despair.

I know this may be bold of me to say but I believe May I Ask has a chance to go down in the CAS Hall of Fame. The English Dub of this anime brings everything to life in the best worst ways possible. The other anime is just so meh that it isn't worth mentioning. This episode is peak for sure.

IT's Selection day again! Just in time following a really good finale last season! There are some big hits this season so listen and see if you can guess any!

Another banger of a finale is headed our way. A comfy cat related homage to horror movies is up against teenage girls trying to bowl their way out of being executed. One lures you in with cute and cuddly virus cats, while the other sets up a medieval bowling premise and knocks it down in the best way possible. You are going to enjoy this!

Who would've guessed that a bowling anime could be this accurate about bowling while still being absolutely nonsensical. Its like Home Alone meets the PBA. Then you have Watari Kun doing Watari Kun things for better or for worse. He is out there just absolutely doting on his sister way too hard. That's anime for you!

ZOMBIE CATS!! ZOMBIE CATS!! ZOMBIE CATS!!!! The return of the cat Virus tries to defeat a man who cooks and looks intimidating while others around him either envy him or try to off themselves. Two very strange anime!! Only one will become victorious! Who will it be? Listen to find out.

These were the best of anime. These were the worst of Anime. A true Tale of Two Cities. A twist on an old classic where a cat is the zombie virus. It goes up against a Deadman Wonderland knockoff. If either of those interest you, then you will be excited for this episode!

Another very interesting week. A hero, a wolf and a baby decide to duke it out against a boy with a very unhealthy relationship with his sister. I feel like the Anime community is the only place you can say that and have people understand what you are talking about. Which, honestly, is probably a little sad. Anyway, enjoy!

What i am being told is that Uglymug is going to turn the Isekai genre on its head at some point during this season. What i also know is that Outcast is the right amount of whiplash. So which one is actually going to move on? Not sure. What i do know is it's a fun listen.

What a banger! Absolute strike of an episode! We got much less sexualization than anticipated so a win their. And we got exactly the right amount of Feudal Japan bowling. Just the right amount of good-bad to start off this season.

You know it! You love it! It's usually one of the best episodes we release in a season! It's selection time! Get in there and listen already!

Due to timing constraints this will be the final episode of this season. I can promise you it is a banger as these anime deliver on what they promised. Kowloon being a very strange sci-fi mystery romance and Too Perfect Saint being the tales of the Prince and his mental gymnastics!

I am pretty sure that the estates of any musical composer should be trying to sue the creators of Classic Stars as it is anything but a classic. It claims to derive inspiration from the classical composers but naught is found from the first minute until the end of each episode. Too Perfect delivers one of the most crucial characters and probably the best written villain this season if not this entire podcast. I hope you enjoy the episode!

It's almost like the vibes anime takes on the anti-vibes anime. Where Apocalypse Hotel tries to make you feel warm and easy with a sprinkle of uneasiness to keep you on your toes, KGR is all uneasiness and intrigue where someone occasionally whispers the word normal so that you don't feel off kilter at all times. I really can't describe these anime or how far apart they are so have a listen for yourself.

It has finally happened. We here at CAS have decided to bear witness to an anime that leads with its chest and follows up with more of its chest. Please put them on truly encapsulates what I truly believe every anime is striving to be at its core and that is not a good thing. On the other hand we have ghost Mozart giving his "gift" to a man who seems to want nothing to do with it and would rather punch his way through school.

I was outvoted this episode. This makes me sad because now we have to watch more of the one i considered to be on the rails. I will however say that these too anime were polar opposites of each other vibe wise. Too be Hero tries too hard to be the edgy version of My Hero Academia and Apocalypse Hotel wants to cuddle up on the couch with you as the world collapses around you. Hope this piques your interest.

I really had hope that both of these would break anime-norms and just be a complete trashy blast. Instead we get Gaslit Gorilla Girl in a farfetched world and an anime that highlights the absolute worst of political intrigue. I still think the winner here has hope, but no spoilers so tune in.

Kowloon Generic Romance is one of the most confusing anime i have watched in a minute. Take that wqith a very big grain of salt, but it certainly sets itself apart from everything else out there. Witch Watch on the other hand just tries to stay within the weird pseudo romance anime that exist without breaking too many walls. There is also a well known twitch streamer as the VA, so there is that.

Out of the code Lyoko Matrix into the best episode of every season as we get ready to select the new anime once again! From Beethoven to Lingerie ecchi we have possibly the widest array and smallest selections to date.

What an absolute nostalgia pick from our producer. We all get to hack into Lyoko to stop X.A.N.A from being a big bully. Unfortunately we didn't stop him in time as he was able to make a live action version that we also check out. This was half nostalgia and half painful which, if you have listened long enough, you know is a good combination

Another season in the books and another victory when it comes to CAS correctly predicting the bad anime and the fun bad anime. We may be getting too good at this. Let's see who takes home the trophy for called shots and any parting thoughts as we close out this season.

The heavyweight showdown of the season finally is here! We get to see if small girls commiting war crimes can stand up to the struggles of an animator after they die. I have to say both of these surprised me for different reasons and I am excited for you to listen.

I can't say I am surprised by this week at all. When a show promises wizards and then basically doesn't deliver and the other show is promising the first three episodes just to fall off a cliff it seems history really does like repeating itself. It was a fun episode nonetheless and always we hope you enjoy!

This episode goes to show that no good season of our podcast goes unpunished! And punished we were as we dealt with the constant disappointment vs the fall from grace.

Bogus Fruit is what happens when you watch I was reincarnated as a Slime and your takeaway is "Wow having an appraisal skill is the coolest thing ever.!". Zenshu is literally what happens to Mangakas when they die and you cannot convince me otherwise. That being said this episode rounds out the the first round of matchups and I can tell you there is a clear favorite heading Into the semifinals.

Vegemon: Vegetables evolved meets double Isekai extravaganza in this week's episode. That basically covers what we watch. I hope this message finds you well!

The one thing I can say about promise of Wizard is that it promised a wizard and we got at least one wizard. Other than that, I have no idea what in the world this show was supposed to give and therefore am waiting with baited breath to see the ultimate fight between wizard and Moon. Okitsura, on the other hand, promised an anime about Okinawa but instead I got an educational tourist promotion that tried to get me to uproot all of my family to move there. We did not move.

The first 120 seconds of Grisaia is a cinematic recapping masterpiece! If you didn't know anything about the Grisaia universe then prepare to be dumped a lot of unhelpful information only to be told you are now caught up to speed. Ameku MD, on the other hand, is what happens when we allow people to make a spinoff of House MD except he is short tempered small lady who is addicted to booze instead of Vicodin. Enjoy!

The new season is upon us! Unfortunately we are back in Winter Simulcast which is where every studio throws there scrap just to keep us satisfied until spring where they finally can release better quality anime. That set aside I do think there is some really good potential with a few shows. Any chance anyone forgets what snake draft is? Probably.

This amazing season has finally come to a close. We get ready to tally the scores to see which one of us takes home the covered CAS belt, crown and chalice! All in all one of the best seasons we have had the fortune of watching. I hope next season can top this one or at least come close!

The long awaited follow up season to Arcane has finally arrived and so we use our bonus episode to watch and critique it. We even have Ethan come back and join us for this episode because this anime is not technically trash. Come listen to where each of us stand on this anime and how it compares to season 1.

WE DID IT! A full season of anime that brought something to the table for the amount of time we had to watch them. I cannot explain how amazing it is to have the anime equivalent of a perfect game. I will not spoil or hype anything up so click play and listen away!

If this season keeps going the way it has been I am not sure where we can go after it is over! Notorious Talker and Yakuza Fiance do not disappoint in yet another thrilling and genuinely fun episode. Looking forward to watching bad anime has not really been a thing since the early episodes and let me tell you what a refresher it is!

If you wanted more hair brained trillionaire schemes and a cyberpunk city that never want to deal with a plot point for more than 30 seconds then you are in luck! An absolute banger of an episode to keep this season chugging along with a chance at a perfect season!!

A CLEAN SWEEP!!! We actually had the first 4 showdowns be 100 percent engaging and worth watching! I can not tell you how awesome it is to have picked such great crappy ani.e! Let's pay ourselves on the back! Yakuza Fiance surpasses the premise entirely and Dandadan for all the hype does not fall flat on its face which is something we are not used to here. I hope you all are enjoying the heck out of this season!

Can we really do it?! Through 3 weeks I can say that CAS is perfect in picking, if nothing else, interesting anime. 2099 may seem like a Cyber punk beat for beat ripoff and True Beauty may be under fire with its creator being bombarded online for unfair beauty standards, yet in spite of that they each offer enough to truly dive into. Going for the sweep of openers next week!

I am going to be extremely real with you when I say 365 days would not be an anime that lasted more than half an episode of it were based anywhere in reality. I genuinely am concerned for worker mentality. Talker on the other hand could not have been more of an open love letter to Inceldom if it tried. What I am trying to say is we have another banger of a week on our hands making us 2 for 2 so far!

Yes this is the way to start a season off. Both of these anime were if nothing else entertaining. Was it good? Was it terrible? It was a little bit of both and the best start in a while. So very refreshing to have watched all 6 episodes and not dozed off even once. I hope this is a good omen about the season to come!

This season has possibly the most upside and downside that we have seen in a while. I truly believe there is a chance every anime is hilarious bad or absolutely dreadful. Not much mid tier to be found. Let us know what you think!

A twist on an old classic for sure. And if you are a fan of J's famous rants then let me tell you that you will be pleasantly surprised! A fun anime to dissect for sure. What an interesting take on an a fun franchise even if it doesn't quite live up to our Initial hype.

I would like to say it has been an incredibly tedious ride but doing this Wrapup cements that we here at CAS are good at our jobs. Not a single one of these anime were better than our finalists. A special treat this episode is our producer talking about Twilight at length. Still can not believe people were so mad with this show and mad Crunchyroll take comments away. Unforgivable. This was a good one. Also we pick a bench warmer for next week!

The finale has come and we can put this season of crappy anime to bed. We get to see the conclusion of a man dating his dishwasher and an evil Lt. who is in love with a loli magical girl. I know how it sounds but trust me it is even worse.

Everything I said in last week's description applies double here. I do not know what we did to deserve such bad anime but it is being delivered by the truck load. Boring and basically unwatchable. Another short episode at least. Here is to hoping the finale turns this all around!

Sometimes when it seems like you might have picked a good season from the start, it all blows up in your face every episode. This season is that exact sentiment and reality. I sure do hope you all get more out of these than we do because let me tell you we are squeezing for any juice possible. Enjoy this tall glass of dogwater anime we discuss.

We have to admit something here. One of these anime is a season two so you are in for a shorter episode. Not sure how it slipped through the crack but as a consolation prize it was one of the most boring anime ever so we do not have to keep watching it at least. Enjoy.

Dragon Raja is a gem of a generation and I want to say nothing else so as not to spoil it's greatness. Vampire Dormitory is exactly what I said it would be two episodes ago. I can not wait for the final of this season.

We dive deeper into the trenches of NuTube with the main character showing us he has to do no growing whatsoever in order to gain what he wants. Gods Games We Play continues to choose ridiculous games for humanity to win but without telling us why any of this matters at all.

Another day another fantastic matchup. Yatagerasu tries to convince us it is Game of Thrones Lite while simultaneously showing us why that without the sex GoT would have been conversation simulator the show. Meanwhile Vampire Dormitory is trying harder than anyone else to be Vampire Knight x Ouran Highschool Host Club. I mean at every turn it is clearly a spiritual and physical clone! It's a good week for sure!

Half of this episode is dedicated to showing us what happens when a pseudo intellectual creates children's games and the other half is dedicated to what happens when an Overpowered protagonist gets a witch to help him remove a family curse. I hope you find at least one of those entertaining.

I wish I could tell you what we learned from this week's episode, but for the first time ever the comments led us down the path of truth as we know absolutely nothing about Dragon Raja. It is just the Chinese version of Harry Potter meets Dragon and it absolutely deserves to be on this podcast. We also learn that when a show has salad bowl in the title you can bet it will be in the opening song.

It only took one episode for us to remember what CAS is all about. We also learn that Ryan is an absolute addict who needs to be stopped at all costs. So we will probably just enable his vices.

This episode features Sean Connery's last live action role of League of Extraordinary Gentlemen vs a very depressed girl who projects her alcoholism and depression onto her extremely large cat. I can tell you one of these made us laugh more and more while we talked about it while the other was just mediocre. Also we may watch League of Extraordinary this season just for fun.

The episode title screams tell me you didn't talk about the anime without telling me you didn't talk about the anime. Regardless, this was a fun episode full of us riffing on anime adjacent topics. I hope you can enjoy this one!

In today's episode we discuss how spoilers should not ruin your viewing experience. In light of that I can tell you we did not pick Tiny Senpai this season. And we do select 2 pseudo intellectual garbage anime. No give a listen to see how we round out the lineup!

Well suffice it say when you mash up a mediocre anime style show with idea bankrupt universe you get an even worse show than you could have imagined. It bores us at every turn while managing to make less and less sense as it goes on. The only saving grace: we barely talk about it. So enjoy the verbal bashing and the wacky arguments galore!

This episode is just full of J getting madsr and madder at all of the dissapointment these anime bring us. We also get a surprise end debate about Justice League. I promise it is not about what you think it is though so stick around to hear that!

Stone Cold Steve Austin vs Space Nazis the Anime. Need I say more?

A hefty dose of a misogynist pitted against Otaku apologism. We tackle things such as consumption vs creation and lack of agency for female characters. This episode is mainly just us venting our frustration and using these anime as prime examples. Come get frustrated with us!

Glass shatters This episode was absolute hell in a cell. There were tables ladders and chairs being thrown everywhere. I was stunned when Ethan almost convinced J to change his mind. I thought we might have hit rock bottom at one point. But in the end one champion emerged. You van take that money and stick it in the bank. Royal Rumble.

Me: Mom can we get Devil is a Part Timer and Pokemon? Mom: We have Devil is a Part Timer and Pokemon at home. Those anime at home: Literally these two anime. It was like watching the tattoo version of someone who says there tattoo means "Spirited warrior" when it really means "Closeted Crochet Fiend". Regardless it was a pretty entertaining time and we hope you enjoy.

Harry Potter and Half-Juiced Prince takes on the shonen soup they call Hell's Paradise. In Ethan's return episode we get to hear classic takes such as: "I don't think i rate it as highly as you guys" and "I am going to vote one way to force Mike to be the tiebreaker" and who could forget "I do not get all the irrational hate towards lolis". Well we certainly do address these issues and more as we take a moderate dive into these two shows!

With Ethan on the move this week we thought we would hold a tryout for the person who will eventually best him in combat to take his spot. Our first guest is one you all know and love: Steve! He has appeared once before and proves his mental fortitude to watch terrible anime and dissect it in a thoughtful way. We hope you enjoy this slighty altered episode.

What we have here amounts to a third try at making Kill la Kill good vs a third attempt at making Ancient Magus Bride good. Will J get Rent-a-Girlfriended again by something that seems psuedodeep? Ok I know that i said a short episode usually spells disaster literally last episode. Hear me out. Sometimes it is better to have a quick hit of dopamine and leave while spirits are high before you talk long enough to see your show become a villain. We did not want to beat a horse to death on the prairie. Am I making any sense? No. But am i enjoyable to read? Also maybe no. This episode is good though.

I am only going to say this once, if you like Trigun Stampede at all you have no reason at all to listen to this episode. That is my fair warning to you all. If you fid not like it however come and listen to see if your least favorite parts matched up with ours. Spoiler alert, the entire thing was our least favorite part.

It is a short episode. If you are a long time fan you probably know that means we tried our best but could still barely fill the time. We were given Durian and were told to make lemonade. I am going to be straight with you here. Revenger should not have made it this far nor should it be moving on due to how enjoyable it is to watch. However, here at CAS we are consitent about one thing and one thing only and that thing is incpnaistency. Can you really blame us though when on the other side we have the blandest tasting nothing burger we could find. It is like pitting a driven over McDonalds hamburger (no cheese) vs a well made double deluxe cheeseburger made by your friend at a picnic. Nuff said.

It feels like Ningen Fushin pulled off a reverse Moriarty the Patriot this week. It was looking like we were just going to be bored and when all of a sudden the bad voice acting was kicked into high fear with terrible delivery and awful story to boot! And Card continues to be a semi-good story with some outlandish choices. This week is one you definitely want to give a listen to!

Imagine if the movie Kingsman was made into a JoJo's style anime. That's High Card for you. Good parts of each crammed into a ridiculous plot about a 52 card deck of cards. Then i want you to imagine what it is like being 30 and being fired from your job. This has absolutely nothing to do with Chillin' in my 30's at all. It is just another Isekai wannabe anime where a powerful human takes on the demon army after being fired from said demon army. Well, enjoy!

This weeks anime are exactly that where we have to choose which slow death moves on to next week, the avant-garde wannabe in Fire Hunter or the Ancient Magus Bride knockoff that is Tale of Outcasts. If you were hoping this episode would be like talking about Hellsing Ultimate gone religious, I am sorry to report it is not. The team here at CAS has not been bamboozled this hard since Moriarty the Patriot, only this time it is from the reviewers. To them I have to ask, what in the world dod you mean when you promised overly religious revenger material? Oh we also talk about Reborn but to be honest it is a lot of the same old isekai nonsense. Well Ethan is sick this episode so that means you get hear a lot more of J as he compensates for Ethan's voice. In other news an anime that combines Mr. And Mrs. Smith with a baby takes on an anime that promises, but does not deliver, 4 versions of the Joker taking on dungeons together in an Isekai on every aspect but the transported to another world. It is as if this anime wanted to ride the Isekai hype train but wanted to be able to say it was not one when the angry mobs came storming in. In...

I don't know if it is the fact that we have not done the selection for bad anime for a few months but there is nothing to say except it feels like we are at the top of Kingda Ka with this one! The highest of highs with this one and just teetering at the top to see if we fall forward into a fun and wild ride or fall backward to our demise! Vacation is all we ever wanted but it is a fleeting dream as it comes to a close this week. The penultimate episode to what has been the best vacation we could have hoped for. Paranoia agent is a strikingly complex and enjoyable anime. That just further confounds me as to why Ethan spent most of his time saying Initial D deserves to be in the one spot. I mean I agree with him, but still very strange. On the flip side we discuss what it means to have too much of a good thing. Have a listen to see where Paranoia Agent falls on our list.

In todays episode we discuss how thinking Power from Chainsaw man is a clear self-report of people we do not want to be associated with. We also discuss how episode 8 is a self-contained masterpiece, almost. All in all Chainsaw Man is just another clear example of how good premises get ruined and paints a clear picture of why anime as a whole continues to suffer. To end on a happy note, next week is Hajime No Ippo so we got that going for us!

I can't really think of much to say except Redline was the best way to cap off 2022 and begin 2023. It is a movie that I truly believe any anime fan and even movie fan should see once kist to recognize the live and effort that went into making it. I hope you are ready for us to gush about an amazing movie such as this. And if nothing else i urge you to go watch it on your own!

I have to say this season keeps getting better and better and this week is no exception. We take a look at an anime twist on the classic French tale Count of Monte Cristo. From complex characters to green screen clothing this anime has it all. I also want to make it known that i have not seen a gayer piece of media and I mean that literally and in the best sense possible. France in the 1800's was its own animal and this show kicks it up a notch because we are in the future! Please enjoy another...

It is a short one for sure. Mostly because it is an anime about cars and our defacto in-house filibuster, J does not know jack all about cars. And neither I nor the producer, not wanting to be interrupted more than a wildlife expert at the zoo by that one kid, decided we would just stick to the basics. Nonetheless it was a good anime so buckle up and enjoy.
