This is our first week in our Advent series as we anticipate the coming of Jesus, celebrated at Christmas. Waiting tends to bring out the worst in us. It makes us anxious, irritable, and mean. Advent invites us to reimagine our waiting – it offers us a different perspective that waiting doesn’t have to end with the worst in us, but that God can use waiting to form the best in us.

Hope is a paradox. It's the unrelenting belief that your current reality is not the end of the story and the bravery to acknowledge with uncompromising honesty that this part of the story we're in now is horrible.
