Ep57: Bernie Ecclestone, Murray Walker and Daniel Ricciardo - Matt Clayton’s interviewed them all
Dec 15, 2025Formula 1 and motorsport journalist and podcaster Matt Clayton has worked in F1 for close to 30 years. He pioneered Formula 1 podcasting back in 2010 before, erm, everyone became a podcaster.
Matt sits down with Di and his thoughts about the 2025 F1 season, McLaren’s papaya rules, Max Verstappen, Lewis Hamilton, Lando Norris and of course Oscar Piastri.
He also shares stories of Bernie Ecclestone’s tactics to control interviews and the incredible headlines he generated around the country for two days, sitting down with Daniel Ricciardo and interviewing the voice of Formula 1, Murray Walker.

Duration: 00:46:22Ep56: Abu Dhabi GP crowns 35th Formula 1 Champion
Dec 08, 2025No yellow flags, no safety cars and no contact. The final race of the 2025 Formula 1 season was tense, because of what was at stake, but also quite boring as far as race action goes.
With Australian Oscar Piastri trailing championship leader by 16 points, his McLaren team mate Lando Norris, cinching the title was going to take more than pure race craft. Oscar needed a miracle, “a Bradbury”, especially with Red Bull’s Max Verstappen also in striking distance trailing the lead by 12 points.
Max took pole position in Abu Dhabi and finished the race on the to...
Ep55: Qatar GP and McLaren’s monumental mistake
Dec 01, 2025Late braking, fastest laps, pole positions and a sprint win at the Qatar Grand Prix saw a welcome return to Oscar Piastri’s top form.
However, in the main race, McLaren failed to pit both drivers on lap 7 of 57 when a safety car was deployed, when every other car on the grid did pit.
To add complexity to race strategies, it was mandated that the maximum a tyre could be used for was 25 laps, making Qatar a mandatory two-stop race.
McLaren’s failure to pit under safety car effectively handed Max Verstappen the win...
Ep54: Las Vegas GP double McLaren DSQ keeps Piastri & Verstappen in contention
Nov 24, 2025The Formula 1 Heineken Las Vegas Grand Prix has kept the World’s Drivers Champion wide open after both McLaren’s were disqualified after the race because the rear skid plates under the car were less than 9mm in depth.
Dianne Bortoletto is joined by Ciara Gillan from Formula Live Pulse and together they break down the race, the championship, and what needs to happen for Oscar Piastri or Max Verstappen to beat Lando Norris in the Drivers Championship. They also talk about Ferrari’s woes, Lego’s pink Cadillac and Cadillac’s hopes, and they congratulate the winner of...

Ep52: Sao Paolo delivers highs and lows, Lando storms, Max attacks, and tough times for Piastri
Nov 10, 2025The Formula 1 Sao Paolo Grand Prix in Brazil delivered plenty of action on the track and the results have upset the Australian apple cart.
McLaren’s Lando Norris drove an impeccable weekend in both the sprint and grand prix, qualifying on pole and finishing on the top step of both. While Norris fans are joyous, Piastri fans are deflated after a DNF in the sprint and 10-second time penalty in the race where he finished fifth.
Kimi Antonelli in the Mercedes has his highest finish ever in the race, Max Verstappen charged with another super-human perf...
Ep51: The two-seater F1 car, Nicole Piastri, and the best car on the planet, an interview with Stephen Corby
Nov 03, 2025Stephen Corby is one of Australia’s leading motoring journalists, who “very occasionally gets to cover F1, and wishes he could do so more often”.
Sitting down with Di, Stephen recounts the weekend with Nicole Piastri and the surprising things she said about Oscar, his interviews with Mark Webber, the Monaco Grand Prix and how he ended up in a jacuzzi with a Euro pop star, and witnessing the utterly unbelievable “crash gate”.
Stephen describes in detail the sheer exhilaration of driving the Ferrari F80 and what it was like to be a passenger in the world’s...

Ep50: Lando, Oscar and the championship battle, plus Mon has news
Oct 27, 2025Ay caramba! The 20th race of the 24-race season, the Mexican Grand Prix, was thrilling and exhausting in equal measure. So much action on the track, and lots of off-track excursions too.
Lando Norris scored the grand slam in Mexico City at the Formula 1 Mexican Grand Prix; pole position, he led every lap, and he convincingly won, putting him the lead in the World Drivers Championship by the narrowest of margins, just one point.
Oscar Piastri has been battling with the car for the last three grands prix and finished in 5th after qualifying in 7...
Ep49: Austin Texas, a weekend for Piastri to forget with Ciara Gillan, F1 Live Pulse
Oct 20, 2025Austin, Texas, race 19 of the 24-race F1 season saw Max Verstappen take pole and win both the sprint race and the main race. With two McLaren DNFs in the sprint, thus scoring no points, Max is closing in on the World Drivers Championship, just 40 points behind Oscar, and 26 points behind Lando.
Monique is unwell this week and Di is joined by Formula Live Pulse co-founder Ciara Gillan, an Irish national living in Berlin. The business and life partner of Simone Scanu who was our guest on Episode 39.

Ep48: The rumours swirling around Singapore with F1 Journalist Reilly Sullivan
Oct 13, 2025Just back from Singapore, F1 journalist Reilly Sullivan, steps in for Monique Ceccato. Reilly shares all the rumours and media chatter he heard on the ground. One year on from his first interview with Nico Hulkenberg, Reilly interviews the former HAAS driver and talks about the new Audi Team.
Of course, ‘Papaya Rules’ is still the topic de jour, we chat about Jack Doohan, the drivers' girlfriends on the broadcast, the World Drivers Championship and more juicy rumours.
If you want to hear how Reilly Sullivan got his break as a Formula 1 journalist, listen to Ep44. ...
Ep47: After the Singapore Grand Prix, there can be no more ‘Mr Nice Guy’
Oct 06, 2025McLaren might have sewn up the Constructor’s Championship in Singapore on the weekend, but the race has left fans fuming at the inconsistent ‘Papaya Rules’.
George Russell was dominant and won convincingly, Fernando Alonso was awarded ‘Driver of the Day, and Carlos Sainz made up 10 places to finish in the points, but all of that was overshadowed with what happened on lap 1 between the McLaren teammates.
Australian and leader of the F1 World Drivers Standings, Oscar Piastri, copped a pretty hard bump from his teammate Lando Norris during a brazen overtake move. Deemed a first lap...
Ep46: RIP Roscoe, hello new sprint races, and whoah... Lando!
Sep 29, 2025It might have been a non-race week, but that doesn't mean Di and Mon didn't have plenty to talk about. There's been sad news from the Hamilton family, some feel-good news coming from the Haas camp, and some rather surprising views as far as Lando Norris is concerned. Join us for a quick chat about all that's been happening in the F1 world this week before we get back to regular race programming post-Singapore.

Duration: 00:28:59Ep45: SIX RED FLAGS and the Azerbaijan Grand Prix
Sep 22, 2025It defies belief, but this weekend's qualifying in Baku brought out not one, not two, but SIX red flags. History has been made, and not for the right reasons. Despite the carnage in setting the grid, the race was relatively uneventful after the opening lap. Though we did see some less familiar faces gracing the podium steps, which we're always here for.
While we definitely had our eyes on the interval times in that DRS train that nobody could get off, we also kept an eye on things outside the circuit. Baku is a city that has...

Sep 15, 2025What is the one question you would ask an F1 driver if you were interviewing them for a story? Nico Hulkenberg, Jack Doohan, Zhou Guanyu and Gabriel Bortoleto have all been interviewed by lifestyle reporter and F1 journalist Reilly Sullivan, who is our special guest on this week’s episode.
Any aspiring F1 journalists out there, this episode is for you - Riley gives some tips on how to become a F1 journalist, with Di and Mon chiming in, drawing on their experience as journalists.
Reilly has theories about Jack Doohan’s future that he share...
Ep43: Mamma mia... Monza was quite the race!
Sep 08, 2025We thought last week's DNF at the Dutch Grand Prix was quite the talking point, but it seems it was just the warm-up for this week. Yet again, we've got plenty of Maclaren happenings to talk about. But that gossip isn't to be outdone by Stefano Domenicali's outrageous claims, or news of what Daniel Ricciardo is up to next.
And, if you've got a touch of Italophilia, stick around until the end for discussions about Monza, Milano, and some of the most delicious regional meals you can find there.

Sep 01, 2025The Dutch Grand Prix in Zandvoort certainly delivered a thrilling race. As Monique describes it, flags, failures and firsts. From the high of all highs seeing Oscar Piastri extend his lead of the F1 World Drivers Championship, to the low of lows with a double DNF for Ferrari and that championship-ending mechanical failure for Lando, The Netherlands F1 Race had it all.
The home boy hero, Max Verstappen, finished second along with a first-timer on the third step, adding a mega feel-good factor to an action packed race.

Ep41: Talking multi-generational fandom, AI in F1, and about George Russell's manners with Greg Rust
Aug 25, 2025Greg Rust—better known as Rusty of Rusty's Garage and Australian Grand Prix racetrack commentary fame—has plenty of stories to tell. He regales Di and Mon with tales of getting to know the 'real' Liam Lawson, interviewing Mark Webber right before he took to the championship fight, and Nikki Lauder meet-ups (unfortunately, not with him).
There's even a bit of unexpected Lando praise from the trio, and some speculating as to what Bottas and Ricciardo might get up to next #whatsnext

Sardinia comes out as the top destination for F1 drivers. Di shares some of her Sardinian insights along with an island paradise a bit closer to home that has beaches that are just as stunning.
Mon has tried bumping into F1 drivers during Euro Summer to no avail, and Di relives memories of meet some Australian F1 drivers.

What’s the interval between Piastri and Verstappen? You can have all the data at your fingertips in real time with the Formula Live Pulse app.

Ep 38: Hungarian F1 Grand Prix dishes up the unexpected
Aug 04, 2025Anything but predictable, the Formula 1 Hungarian Grand Prix was full of surprises (even for a certain Ferrari driver!) and unexpected results. Ferrari’s first pole of the season, two Aston Martins qualifying in the top ten ahead of Max Verstappen who qualified eight. In fact, it was the closest qualifying in Formula history.
Strategy played a big role in the race result that Monique (reporting from a super yacht in Croatia) and Di unpack.
Budapest is also a beautiful travel destination with delicious lesser-known food. Di recounts a confronting moment in the city known for its...
Ep 37: A wet Belgian Grand Prix and an Aussie winner
Jul 28, 2025In Di's own words: "The Belgian Grand Prix was exciting, then a fizzer". What could have been an action-packed wet race was mighty mundane after the first ten or so laps, with just one driver daring to try a different strategy. But, Belgium (the country) makes up for Belgium (the race) with beautiful architecture and some pretty bangin' national dishes, which Di and Mon have some fun reminiscing about.

Jul 21, 2025Since accidentally starting a career in motorsport, Alexandra Schieren has clocked up 25+ years’ experience that includes single-seater racing to being the FIA Formula 1 Press Delegate, working for race promoters, and drivers and in many different disciplines.
Alexandra generously shares stories of how she got her career start, and keeps Di and Mon enthralled as she tells of a time when tyres kept blowing up before the 2005 Indianapolis Grand Prix that saw only six F1 cars in the race, and what it was like working in the media centres during the first Las Vegas Grand Prix when that ma...
Ep35: Horner sacked and F1 the Movie review
Jul 14, 2025Huge news in Formula 1 this week with Red Bull team boss Christian Horner sacked with immediate effect. Over the last few days, we’ve read the news and the speculation continues. Did IT happen again? Did Max give an ultimatum? Is next year’s power unit a dud? Is Max leaving Red Bull? What have you heard? What do you think? Comment below.
Finally Monique went to see F1 the Movie, so we can finally talk about it. You’ll know when there’s spoilers - so don’t worry, you can pause the pod and come back to it...
Ep34: British F1 Grand Prix, Hectic AF, history made and a harsh penalty for Oscar Piastri
Jul 07, 2025The Formula 1 British Grand Prix did not disappoint. Wind, rain, sunshine and rain again, and again, brought the safety car out more times than changes to Red Bull’s second seat. The best story of the weekend was Nico Hulkenberg’s first podium finish after 15 years and 239 races.
McLaren’s Lando Norris took the top step to be the hometown hero winning his first British Grand Prix, but we hardly talked about it because THAT penalty that was served to Oscar Piastri ruined his chance of a sure victory. Mr Cool Calm and Collected no more, Oscar was sal...
Ep33: Austria F1 Grand Prix, the McLaren Fight and first thoughts on F1 the movie
Jun 30, 2025Flying solo this week, Di recaps all the action from Spielberg at the Austrian Grand Prix. While Monique is living her best travel writer life on board a cruise in Svalbard seeing polar bears and kayaking through icebergs, Di revelled in the thrill of the race. The fight between the McLarens is well and truly on with Lando Norris qualifying on pole and leading the race, with a tenacious and hungry Oscar Piasti nipping at his heels for the first 20 laps. It made for exciting racing.

Jun 16, 2025While Dianne is away, the internet doesn't want to play, so Monique is holding down the fort and hosting this episode solo. Unfortunately, there's no banter between friends, and no poking fun at Di for having to watch the entire race weekend in French because, though she's in Italy, the cruise ship she's on is French. But, there's plenty of praise for Lando despite his 'stupid' mistake, and even more for Kimi Antonelli and his first-time podium.

Jun 09, 2025Though there wasn't a race to keep us occupied this week, we managed just fine with seven episodes of F1: The Academy to get through on Netflix. Spoiler alert: we loved it. Why? You'll have to have a listen.
While we're free of racing action, we also tackle the hard questions—like who we'd put in the car to replace Stroll while he's injured, and which driver on the current grid we think would have the best autobiography—and play a quick-fire round of association.

Duration: 00:24:57Ep29: Formula 1 Barcelona Grand Prix, a Max Verstappen moment, and a touch of Spanish food inspiration
Jun 02, 2025We can all thank Mercedes, a dodgy power unit, and a terrible Red Bull tyre strategy for this week's Grand Prix action. The race, held in Barcelona, was a bit of a bust until lap 55, when Kimi Antonelli's car, once again, failed him. A safety car, cheap pit stops, and a poorly chosen three-stop strategy meant there was a whole lot of action in the closing few laps. It was primarily 'Mad' Verstappen.
Di has some choice words about Verstappen and his temper, while Mon mostly reserved hers for Flavio Briatore. They thought much more positively about...
Ep28: Formula 1 Monaco Grand Prix, failed new rule and Monaco travel tips
May 26, 2025To spice up the Formula 1 Monaco Grand Prix, the FIA introduced a mandatory two-pit stop rule where drivers had to use two different compound tyres. After a lot of hype and talk about this new rule, it made the race oh-so-utterly boring. Di describes it as a ‘snooze fest’.
The best part? Australian Oscar Piastri on the podium getting a little bit mixed up when the trophies were being handed out.
Monique and Di have both been to Monaco several times and share the things they love about the Principality, what you should see and do wh...
Ep27: F1 Emilia Romagna Grand Prix - it was all in the safety cars and strategy
May 19, 2025Considering Imola is a race track the commentators kept telling us was 'a hard one to overtake on', this year's Emilia Romagna Grand Prix was anything but boring. We lost count of the number of overtakes we saw on track. And, we couldn't possibly discuss the race without mentioning the gold-standard overtake and the two safety cars that completely changed the game.
Unfortunately, Mon wasn't allowed to repeat the very short and succinct voice message she sent Di when *that overtake* happened, because we have a 'no swearing' policy on the podcast. Though Di did come close...

The best part? Australian Oscar Piastri scored a hat-trick in winning the Miami GP, and continues his charge at the top of the F1 World Drivers Championship. It’s the first time a McLaren driver has won three back-to-back races since 1997/1998, when Mika Hakkinen did it.

Apr 21, 2025It was glorious back-to-back wins for McLaren’s Oscar Piastri who now leads the F1 World Drivers Championship, the first time an Australian had led the WDC since Mark Webber in 2010, Piastri’s manager.
Max Verstappen put up a fight, but getting his elbows out cost him a five second penalty, and perhaps, ultimately the race. While Max was angry with the race result, third-placed Charles Leclerc was ecstatic to give Ferrari their first F1 race podium of the 2025 season (not counting Lewis Hamilton’s Chinese sprint race pole and win). And what even is one one-hundreth of a s...
Ep22: Bahrain Grand Prix - Perfection from Piastri and a unique souvenir
Apr 14, 2025It was perfection from Piastri with a pole position that Monique watched from the Paddock Club. The oldest F1 track in the Middle East delivered excitement with plenty of overtaking action, penalties galore, an opportune safety car, a DNF, and a disqualification. The (mostly) two stop race had drivers on different strategies and different tyres, with some teams not learning the lessons from others when tyres didn't fire up.

Apr 07, 2025There might not have been much excitement on the track, but there’s plenty to unpack from the Japanese Formula 1 Grand Prix at Suzuka. It was Red Bull’s Max Verstappen’s first pole since Austria last year, which he converted to a win in a flawless drive, and the McLaren’s finished in second and third thanks to a risk-free race strategy. All eyes were on the drivers Yuki Tsonoda who was promoted to Oracle Red Bull, and Liam Lawson who was demoted to Visa Cash App Racing Bulls, with interesting results.

It's just the tip of...
