After Justice League became the highest-grossing box office bomb in film history, DC Films was sinking deep into dark waters, and their only hope of being brought back to the surface lied with their next film: Aquaman.

Corporate mergers, executive meddling, personal tragedy, and an egomaniac would all come together to create an upset from which the DCEU would never fully recover. Just four years after the franchise's takeoff, Justice League had sent it into a tailspin.
